Ajibola Basiru, national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that the APC will assume control of Osun State in 2026.
On Friday, at an APC gathering in Osogbo, Basiru shared his observation.
After criticising state governor Ademola Adeleke for being dishonest about urban redevelopment projects, Basiru urged Osun APC members to begin mobilising for the 2026 gubernatorial race.

The much-touted borehole per ward is only a coincidence. He said that any government based on deceit and propaganda was doomed to fail.
While expressing concern for the plight of workers in the State, the APC national scribe questioned the allocation of the initial N2 billion from the federal government’s palliative fund.
I feel bad for the Osun workers who are being put under even greater stress. Whereas states like Kwara, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Anambra Kano, and even Kebbi with war-ravaged Borno have made workers grin in addition to their pay, what has Adeleke done with the first installment of N2b from the Federal Government?
Has even one Osun worker received a single cup of the rice the Osun PDP received from the Federal Government? Osun has seen a tremendous boost in federal allocations in recent years. He lamented that the increase had not resulted in any improvements to workers’ conditions or new initiatives to benefit the general populace.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun issued a statement in response, with PDP chairman Sunday Bisi telling Basiru to “put away any delusions” he may have about his party regaining power in the state.
According to Bisi, the claim made by the APC National Secretary is a “fallacious illusion” that has no basis in reality and never will in Osun.
He said, “Basiru’s statement ignores the commendable progress and positive transformations in Osun State under Governor Adeleke’s administration, after the good people of Osun emphatically discarded him and his useless tissues of political misfits, whose sole business was to loot and destroy the state.
It’s clear that Basiru’s rejection in the polls has left him reeling. His most recent words have only served to deepen his pain and trap him in a nebulous fantasy.
Basiru’s predictions of an APC comeback in Osun in 2026 exposed his lack of familiarity with the region’s present political climate. His indifference to the state’s continuous beneficial changes is another evidence of his disconnection from the people’s needs and hopes.
Basiru has no place in government in sane societies since he just sees politics as a means to exert power and indulge in flamboyant display. This explains why he frequently makes irrelevant, self-interested, and illogical claims.
The Governor has shown leadership by going above and above to ensure the transparency that is necessary in a democratic society. In contrast to the ego-stroking policies of the APC government, public funds are being used wisely for the benefit of the people. The Osun people will never give up their rightful place at the top of the democratic food chain.
The Osun PDP chairman further said that Basiru utilised poverty as a political tool to keep the people under his thumb.
