The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged diversion of Osun State Government funds for vote-buying ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The party called on the anti-corruption agencies to investigate claims that public funds were being used to influence voters and support the re-election bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
APC alleged that financial resources belonging to the state were being deployed for political purposes, describing the development as an abuse of public office and a threat to the credibility of the forthcoming election.
The party urged the EFCC and ICPC to urgently investigate the allegations, identify those responsible and prosecute anyone found culpable.
It also called for close monitoring of government expenditure in the days leading to the election to prevent the alleged misuse of public resources.
The APC maintained that the use of state funds for electoral purposes would undermine the principle of a level playing field and compromise the integrity of the poll.
The party further urged relevant authorities to ensure that all political parties and candidates are allowed to participate in the election without undue advantage being given to any contestant through the use of public resources.
The allegations have added to the growing political tension in Osun as parties intensify their campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
