Not only the voting strength of Osogbo land that should make the Osun State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) consider the party guber candidate from Osogbo/Olorunda State Constituencies but the plan of the former Governor of Osun State and immediate past Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, whose plan is to pick Osogbo indigene to ruin the political strength of APC in Osogbo and Olorunda Local Government areas of the State, requires strong attention and permutations by Osun APC, our dear party.
No indigene and good residents of Osogbo will vote en mass to make the town produce a governor for the state.
However, Osogbo indigenes and other political watchers from within and outside Osun State have become unanimous that the time is overripe for Osogbo as a State Capital to produce a governor for the state come 2026.

If the Oranmiyan of Ilesha, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, now picks a candidate from Osogbo while the APC looks elsewhere to pick its candidate, guess the damage it will cause for APC in Osogbo/Olorunda Local Governments in terms of voting strength.
The Third Force of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2022 Guber election, where Architect Goke Omigbodun suffered a severe failure as an Osogbo indigene under SDP because his party joined the race as a divided house and had a seriously weak party structure won the election.
The Third Force of SDP under Senator Iyiola Omisore in 2018 had a substantial impact during the election, even when another person from the East Senatorial District had just exited the seat. Senator Iyiola Omisore is a wild dog and articulates grassroots in Osun politics, and his appearance and voice weigh a lot. Also, he was the Messiah of the 2018 election rerun in favour of Osun APC.
West Agenda
Not in any manner I undermine the potency of the West clarion demand and call of governorship candidate within the fold of APC from the Senatorial District. The West has not been privileged to present a governorship candidate under the platform of APC to date. But let us be mindful of the voting strength of Ede South and Ede North in the West. Osun APC should consider a federal constituency with a voting strength that can subdue any bloc votes from any part of the state in the forthcoming governorship election.
No sane mind will undermine the credibility of Omooba Dotun Babayemi and Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji when the Iwo votes can not be overlooked because it is also a domain with bulk votes.
Osun State politics may not entertain 3rd force, but the tension in Osogbo on how their son should be the next governor is higher to risk at this eve year of 2026.
Osogbo has a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in person of Barrister Rasheed Kunle Adegoke, popularly known as K-Rad, who had once contested the primary election with former governor Gboyega Oyetola in 2018 under the platform of APC and still ambition to contest under the banner of Osun APC.
Kunle Adegoke’s political identity within the APC circle in the State called “Tiwan-Tiwa” and under which he contested within the APC primary in 2018 then.
Also, a Group has called for the candidature of Senator Ajibola Basiru, who is entirely and presently enjoying the seat of the party National Secretary with full capacity, to contest under the APC.
Many youths have recently called on Engineer Olalekan Badmus, the present Nigeria Port Authority Executive Director, to show interest in the race for Bola Ige White House Governor’s Office in 2026. Badmus is a son of Osogbo philanthropist Alhaji Khamis Olatunde Badmus, the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, including Edo and Delta States.
Meanwhile, OPIF’s position is based on the most qualified and sellable candidate. At the same time, my opinion draws the attention of the party’s Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders on why “Omo Oye” should come from Osogbo Land, as I firmly believe it would guarantee Osun APC landslide victory in 2026.
Osun APC can only be protected and crowned with victory in 2026, when the duo of Pa. Bisi Akande and Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, worked together with one love, with the interest of the masses and the interest of the party.
Comrade Surulere writes from Osogbo.
