Osun: ADC questions Tinubu’s claim on EFCC restriction of state accounts

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s explanation regarding the freezing of Osun State Government accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The party’s reaction followed the President’s directive to the anti-graft agency to lift the restriction on the accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

ADC said the development raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the EFCC’s action and the subsequent presidential intervention.

The opposition party argued that the timing of the restriction, coming shortly before the governorship election, warranted greater transparency from the Federal Government and the anti-graft agency.

It questioned whether the EFCC had acted independently in restricting access to the state government’s accounts and what prompted the President to order the accounts unfrozen.

The party also demanded clarification on the reason for the restriction and the specific allegations or investigations connected to the accounts.

ADC maintained that government institutions, particularly agencies responsible for law enforcement and financial investigations, must operate transparently and without political interference.

The party urged the Federal Government to provide Nigerians with clear answers on the matter, stressing that public confidence in state institutions could be undermined if their actions were perceived as politically motivated.

ADC further called on relevant authorities to ensure that the controversy does not affect the credibility of the forthcoming Osun governorship election.
