The legal team of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has distanced itself from a petition challenging the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.
The legal team said it was not responsible for the petition and did not authorise or endorse the legal action seeking to challenge the outcome of the election.
The development has raised questions over the identity and authority of those behind the petition, particularly as the APC’s recognised legal representatives have disowned the case.
The legal team maintained that any legal action instituted on behalf of the party must have the appropriate authorisation and comply with the party’s established procedures.
Adeleke, who contested the election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), secured victory at the polls and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The latest development could affect the legal challenge to the election result, as the APC’s legal representatives have made it clear that they were not behind the petition.
The party’s position is expected to be clarified further as relevant legal and political stakeholders determine the status of the petition and whether it has the backing of the APC.
