The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 10,210 personnel and specialised tactical units to Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The deployment was ordered by the Commandant-General of the corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, as part of measures to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The personnel were drawn from 10 state commands, including Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi and Delta states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The corps also deployed specialised formations, including intelligence, tactical, strike and K9 units, to support election security operations.
The NSCDC said the deployment would provide security for voters, electoral officials, observers, journalists and other residents, while also supporting the protection of election materials.
Senior officers of the corps are expected to coordinate the operations across the state throughout the election period.
Audi directed the personnel to remain professional, impartial and respectful of citizens’ rights while carrying out their duties.
The NSCDC also warned individuals and groups against actions capable of disrupting the election, urging political parties, candidates and their supporters to obey electoral laws and maintain peace.
The corps assured residents that it would work with other security agencies to ensure a safe environment for the conduct of the governorship election.
