The Nigeria Police Force has warned that individuals who violate electoral laws during the August 15 Osun State governorship election will be prosecuted in Abuja.
The warning was issued as political parties and candidates intensified preparations for the election, with security agencies also stepping up measures to ensure a peaceful exercise.
The police said election-related offences would be treated seriously and that anyone found engaging in acts capable of disrupting the electoral process would face the full weight of the law.
According to the force, the decision to prosecute offenders in Abuja is aimed at ensuring that electoral offences are handled through a centralised and effective legal process.
The police urged political parties, candidates, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with all relevant electoral laws throughout the election period.
It also warned against vote buying, violence, intimidation, destruction of electoral materials and other activities capable of undermining the credibility of the poll.
Security personnel deployed for the election were directed to remain professional and impartial while protecting voters, electoral officials and other stakeholders.
The police called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and individuals suspected of attempting to disrupt the election.
The force reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the Osun governorship election is conducted in a peaceful environment and that anyone found culpable of electoral offences is brought to justice.
