The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has dismissed claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that the state is in crisis, rejecting calls for a state of emergency.
In a statement issued on Friday by its state chairman, Sunday Bisi, the PDP described the APC’s claims as baseless, asserting that democratic governance is functioning smoothly at all levels in the state.
Governance Fully Operational – PDP

“There is no breakdown of governance in Osun. The judiciary is operational, the state assembly is active, and the executive is effectively discharging its duties,” the statement read.
The PDP criticized the APC’s comparison of Osun to Rivers State, insisting that the political situations in both states are entirely different.
“Osun is not Rivers, and any attempt to equate the two is misleading,” the party stated.
The PDP also accused the APC of instigating the recent local government crisis and blamed the opposition for the violence that erupted over council leadership disputes. It described the APC’s call for a state of emergency as an act of desperation.
Adeleke Administration Committed to Rule of Law
Bisi defended Governor Ademola Adeleke’s handling of the local government dispute, attributing the crisis to alleged illegal appointments made by the previous administration.
“The Adeleke administration respects the judiciary. The local government dispute arose from illegal appointments made by the former administration. Governor Adeleke has been addressing these issues within the law,” he said.
He also cited a recent meeting of traditional rulers in Osun, where royal leaders expressed support for the Adeleke administration’s governance style and adherence to the rule of law.
PDP Accuses APC of Political Misrepresentation
Refuting allegations that the Adeleke administration has disregarded court orders, the PDP insisted that the government has complied with all judicial rulings.
“The APC continues to misinterpret court judgments for political gain. The governor acted swiftly to prevent further violence, urging all parties to respect legal procedures,” Bisi noted.
Regarding employment controversies, the PDP justified the governor’s decision to review last-minute appointments made by the previous administration, emphasizing the need for merit-based recruitment and financial sustainability.
“Adeleke is ensuring that recruitment processes are based on merit and financial sustainability.
The APC’s local council election was conducted in violation of the law. They have no moral ground to criticize a properly conducted election,” he added.
APC Leader Accused of Seeking Power Unconstitutionally
The PDP also accused Osun APC leader, Ajibola Bashiru, of attempting to seize power through unconstitutional means, alleging that the opposition was resorting to misinformation and violence instead of embracing the rule of law.
On the ongoing strike by local government workers, the PDP attributed the unrest to security concerns following recent violence. The party, however, assured residents that governance in Osun remains stable.
Earlier, the Osun APC, in a statement by its Media and Information Director, Kola Olabisi, urged the presidency to declare a state of emergency in the state, citing what it called a total collapse of governance at the grassroots level under Governor Adeleke’s administration.
