More than 2,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State have defected to the Labour Party (LP) in solidarity with their representative in the State Assembly, Rowland Dennis, who recently left the PDP.
The defectors, led by their ward chairmen, were officially received into the LP by Governor Alex Otti and presented with the party’s flag by the Isiala Ngwa South LP Chairman, Smart Ogbonna.
Welcoming the new members, Otti described the Labour Party as an inclusive platform committed to good governance and open to all Nigerians.

He commended Hon. Dennis for bringing a large number of supporters into the party and assured the defectors that they would not face discrimination but enjoy equal status with long-standing members.
“Our administration is focused on serving the poor and less privileged by delivering the dividends of democracy to the people,” Otti stated.
Dismissing speculations that Dennis’ defection was linked to the 2027 elections, the governor emphasized that his priority remained fulfilling his current mandate rather than future political contests.
In his remarks, Hon. Dennis said he was drawn to the Labour Party by Governor Otti’s developmental strides across the state.
