The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Seyi Makinde of squandering N2.9 billion on the celebration of the state’s 50th anniversary.
The allegation was contained in a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare.
InfoStride News reports that the Makinde-led administration recently marked the 50th anniversary of the creation of Oyo State.

However, the opposition APC claimed that the governor expended an excessive sum on the celebration, alleging that N90 million was deducted from the federal allocation of each of the 33 local government councils in the state to fund the anniversary.
The party further alleged that additional undisclosed amounts were also drawn from the state government’s coffers for the same purpose.
“We have it on good authority that a sum of N90 million was deducted from the federal allocation of each of the 33 local government councils by Gov. Makinde ostensibly to fund the anniversary project, while another undisclosed amount was taken from the coffers of the state government for the same purpose at the same time,” the statement read.
The APC questioned the justification for the expenditure, asking what the state government did with over N3 billion.
“Was it the huge amount the cost of the misplaced air show, lopsided award conferment, colour-riot Ankara uniform for PDP members and one-man show novelty soccer match that justified the amount?” the party added.
