Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is a candidate to become the next manager of Oldham Athletic.
Scholes met officials from the League One side on Wednesday morning to discuss the possibility of replacing John Sheridan, who was dismissed last month.
Richie Wellens, a former youth team player at Old Trafford, has led Oldham to three consecutive wins since taking over from Sheridan on a temporary basis.
Scholes, a boyhood Oldham fan, has no experience in management but was part of Ryan Giggs’ coaching staff at United when the Welshman was made caretaker manager for four games in 2014 following David Moyes’ dismissal.
He is also part-owner of Conference North side Salford City along with Giggs and former United teammates Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt.
