The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on party leaders from the North-Central geopolitical zone to nominate a replacement for former National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The call was made in a communiqué delivered by the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, at the end of an emergency meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.
The BoT tasked North-Central PDP stakeholders with convening a meeting to nominate a candidate to fill the vacant position, emphasizing the need for unity and adherence to the party’s constitution.
According to the communiqué, the BoT assessed the state of the party and expressed concern over the deteriorating internal harmony, stability, and public confidence in the PDP.
The statement read, “The BoT demands that the National Working Committee (NWC) immediately restore internal harmony, unity, stability, and public confidence in the party.
This must be achieved by respecting the PDP constitution and adhering to the zoning of NWC offices across the geopolitical zones.”
The BoT also criticized the NWC for its repeated postponements of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, describing the delays as detrimental to the party’s image and governance.
“This delay not only undermines the trust and confidence of our members but also portrays our party as being hijacked by certain interests.
The BoT demands that the NWC convene the NEC meeting as scheduled in February 2025 to address pressing issues and provide a clear direction for the party.
Any further postponement may spell doom for the PDP,” the BoT warned.
Furthermore, the BoT urged the PDP Governors’ Forum to strengthen unity and collaborate with other organs of the party to resolve internal disputes swiftly.
The BoT reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the PDP remains a formidable opposition and a vehicle for positive change in Nigeria, emphasizing that collective efforts and adherence to democratic principles are key to the party’s success.
The communiqué underscored the need for the NWC to show leadership and prioritize the interests of the party and its members as the 2025 general elections approach.
