In response to the recent Appeal Court verdict in Kano State, Chief Olabode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed strong condemnation of judges overturning election results.
The controversy arose when the appellate court nullified the election of Governor Abba Yusuf, declaring Gawuna as the winner.
However, confusion ensued when the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment indicated that the Appeal Court affirmed Yusuf as the Kano governor. The court attributed this discrepancy to a clerical error.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos on Monday, George expressed his concern, stating, “This system is worrisome because if the people don’t believe in the third arm of government anymore, anarchy looms.”
He emphasized the potential dangers of unholy alliances between politicians and judges, calling it a threat to democracy.
George advocated for a more transparent judicial process in political cases, suggesting that the judiciary should adjudicate and, in case of discrepancies, order a rerun without declaring a specific party as the winner.
“It is wrong to remove the power of the electorate to elect political leaders, and for the judiciary to tell us who the winners are. This is not good for Nigeria. A compromised judiciary is dangerous,” warned the PDP chieftain.
