A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, George Okoye, has called on stakeholders to ensure that the party does not fade from Nigeria’s political landscape. Speaking to journalists in Awka on Monday, Okoye, a former member of the State Assembly, emphasized that the party’s leadership must not let personal interests and ambitions weaken the PDP.
Okoye underscored the PDP’s role as the primary opposition party and a cornerstone of democratic practice in Nigeria.
He urged the party’s leadership to unite and restructure the PDP for the betterment of the country rather than pursuing a so-called ‘New Mega Party’.

“The leadership of PDP is complacent; they are just going through the motions, looking for direction. Joining a ‘Mega Party’ cannot work in Nigeria today.
The only thing that PDP needs now is to resolve its leadership challenges,” he said.
Okoye expressed optimism that the party could establish credible leadership by improving its internal democracy.
Commenting on President Bola Tinubu’s performance over the past year, Okoye stated he was impressed. “If the government does the right thing, commend it, and criticise it when it does the wrong thing.
I do not think President Tinubu is doing badly. I am impressed by his performance so far, but PDP can provide a better alternative.”
He concluded by reiterating that the PDP’s primary issue is the need for credible leadership.
“The only problem with PDP is credible leadership, and once there is credible leadership, everything else will fall into place,” he said.
