The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has formally withdrawn from all previous agreements aimed at resolving the internal crisis plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), vowing to continue the struggle until justice is achieved.
Wike made his position known in a personally signed statement released on Sunday, titled “PDP Crisis: My Position.”
The former Rivers State governor accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of being the “architect” of the party’s current troubles due to persistent violations of agreed resolutions.
“Since after the 2023 general election, PDP has been wantonly swinging from one part of a slippery precipice to another, owing fundamentally to dishonesty and lack of trust amongst its key stakeholders,” Wike stated.
He recounted meetings of the G5 governors and an expanded reconciliation gathering involving Governors Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, Seyi Makinde, and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, where critical resolutions were reached to stabilize the party.
Among the agreed resolutions, he said, were the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary in line with a Supreme Court judgment, withdrawal of all PDP-related legal suits in Rivers State, and a halt to moves undermining party unity.
However, Wike alleged that Makinde, in concert with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, had violated these resolutions by orchestrating moves to sideline Anyanwu and push for a new secretary, Ude Okoye, through unauthorized channels.
He further accused Makinde of manipulating the PDP national secretariat to undermine the established leadership structure, pointing to a recent botched PDP zonal congress in Jos, which INEC declined to monitor due to the involvement of an unauthorized signatory.
Wike expressed deep disappointment at what he described as a betrayal of trust and a continuation of “games to the detriment of the party.”
“I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained,” he declared.
Wike emphasized his longstanding commitment to the PDP since 1998, stating that his loyalty and contributions to the party outweigh those of the individuals he now accuses of betrayal.
The development marks a significant escalation in the internal rift within the PDP and casts uncertainty over ongoing efforts to unite the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
