Political tension has escalated within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State after the 16-member State Caretaker Committee directed members of the dissolved State Working Committee (SWC) to vacate the party’s state secretariat or face legal action.
In a statement issued on Thursday evening, the Caretaker Committee, chaired by Dr Falack Victor, said its directive was backed by law.
“Occupying the state secretariat of the party after your lawful dissolution amounts to illegality, and the law frowns at such acts,” the statement read.

Victor warned that no individual is above the law, urging party members to focus on strengthening the PDP rather than engaging in what he described as “cheap blackmail against the national body.”
The directive followed a February 24, 2026, press statement by the dissolved SWC, which labelled the Caretaker Committee an unrecognised body lacking constitutional standing and accused it of spreading misinformation — claims Victor rejected.
He said the committee’s authority was reinforced by a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan delivered by Justice U.N. Agomoh on January 30, 2026. According to him, the court nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025, declaring all actions and decisions from the convention invalid.
Victor added that the judgment recognised the National Caretaker Committee as the lawful body to manage the party’s affairs and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accord it recognition.
He stressed that the caretaker committee’s objective is to restore order and unity within the party, urging members to avoid factional activities and embrace reconciliation.
Victor also commended the PDP national leadership, including Nyesom Wike and Alhaji Abdulraman Mohammed, and called on members who resigned due to misinformation to return to the party.
“This is a time for reconciliation and unity. We must all come together to rebuild and strengthen the PDP in Taraba State,” he said.
