Lere Oyewumi, the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national leadership is tactfully dealing with matters connected to the behavior of the former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.
Oyewumi, a senator for Osun State’s Osun West Senatorial District, argued that the removal of any individual from the party was often politicized and that the party’s leadership was the best source of information on what action should be taken.
He disclosed this on Friday during a press conference in Ikire in response to reporters’ inquiries.

Nyesom Wike, a major PDP chieftain and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under President Bola Tinubu, has been the target of calls for his suspension.
On national television, a former adviser to PDP presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku in the 2023 general elections, Daniel Bwala, said that Wike would be ejected from the party at the proper time.
While Oyewumi disagreed, he said, “Wike is our leader, one of the prominent leaders, the [former] governor of Rivers State, where PDP did wonderfully well in the last election.” He was one of the few governors in the PDP who never missed a party event.
Wike may be reacting to problems, but I have faith that the party leadership and the national working committee can handle the situation more effectively.
Sometimes the removal of an individual is blown out of proportion and politicized, but I have faith that those in charge of the party’s affairs know how to make the right call at the right time.
