The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as its National Secretary, following a decision reached by the party’s leadership and key stakeholders.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press briefing at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum.
Damagum, who was flanked by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other prominent party figures, acknowledged that the decision to reinstate Anyanwu into the National Working Committee (NWC) was a difficult one, but ultimately supported by a majority within the party.

“It was a critical decision, but after extensive consultations, the party’s organs resolved to reinstate Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary,” Damagum stated.
In the same briefing, the PDP leadership also announced the cancellation of its planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting earlier scheduled for June 30, 2025.
“We will have an expanded Caucus instead. At that meeting, decisions will be made leading up to a properly constituted NEC,” Damagum said.
He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had communicated that it did not receive formal notice of the NEC meeting, prompting the party to make adjustments in compliance with legal requirements.
“As INEC has said they do not have our notice, what will now hold on June 30 is an extended Caucus,” he clarified.
The reinstatement of Anyanwu marks a significant development in the PDP’s ongoing internal power dynamics, and signals a potential realignment of leadership structures within the party.
