The management and staff of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat on Monday staged a mass walkout and shut down their offices in protest against Senator Samuel Anyanwu’s attempt to forcibly reclaim his position as National Secretary.
The protest erupted following the appointment of Setonji Koshoedo as Acting National Secretary by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), a decision that had previously received the backing of the Secretariat staff.
According to eyewitnesses, Senator Anyanwu arrived at the party headquarters in Abuja accompanied by suspected thugs and attempted to take over the national secretary’s office.

“Anyanwu and his people entered the building. It wasn’t just an attempt—they went straight into the national secretary’s office with some of his aides,” one protesting staff member told reporters.
The staff, who have publicly rejected Anyanwu’s return, immediately vacated the premises, leaving the building deserted and the senator reportedly stranded and visibly embarrassed.
Sources at the Secretariat confirmed that the workers had previously pledged their support for Koshoedo’s appointment, stating it was done in accordance with the party’s internal procedures.
“We had all left our offices and walked out in protest. That firm action led to his exit,” another staff member said.
In May, the Secretariat workers had issued a public declaration endorsing Koshoedo, warning against any moves that would destabilize the party’s administrative structure.
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP has not issued an official statement on the incident.
