A pro-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group, PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing him as the chief architect of the internal crisis plaguing the party.
Reacting to Wike’s recent outburst against Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Peter Mbah of Enugu State, the group accused the former Rivers State governor of “turning truth on its head” and “playing to the gallery.”
Wike, in a strongly-worded statement on Sunday, accused Makinde and Mbah of betrayal and announced his withdrawal from all “gentleman agreements” aimed at resolving the PDP’s leadership crisis.
He alleged that both governors violated previously agreed terms, including the retention of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and the withdrawal of legal actions related to the PDP crisis in Rivers State.
But the PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, in a swift response, labelled Wike’s comments as a diversionary tactic and a smear campaign targeted at genuine party stakeholders.
National Coordinator of the group, Emeka Yellow Ikpegbu, accused Wike of being “a mole for the APC” within the PDP, saying the minister had long abandoned the party in spirit and action.
“We are shocked that someone like Wike, who has consistently worked against the interest of the PDP, is now accusing others of betrayal. He is simply being smart by half,” Ikpegbu said.
“Wike and his bootlickers dragging PDP leadership in some states are the real destabilizing forces. He masquerades as a peacemaker while igniting internal fires. It is time for him to fully exit the PDP rather than hiding behind the veil of internal agreements.”
Ikpegbu further called on Wike to officially resign from the party, claiming his continued presence was causing more harm than good.
“His actions during the 2023 elections were clear acts of sabotage. He has already caused enough discomfort. The best thing for the party now is for him to make a clean break and stop pretending,” he added.
The ongoing war of words underscores the deepening rift within the PDP as it continues to grapple with internal divisions and power struggles, with key stakeholders urging unity ahead of future elections.
