Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has clarified that he is not in any form of conflict with President Bola Tinubu.
Obi made this known while addressing a group of teachers in Abuja, where he also dismissed reports suggesting he had agreed to serve as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2027 elections.
Setting the record straight, Obi said his political alignment is part of a broader coalition aimed at tackling poverty, bad governance, and the nation’s decaying education and health sectors.

“President Tinubu and I are not fighting. I am not fighting anybody,” Obi said. “My fight is against bad governance, hunger, out-of-school children, poor health coverage, and poverty.”
He emphasized the need for government to prioritize the welfare of teachers and the enforcement of universal basic education, which he said should be free for all children as stipulated by law.
“These teachers here should be paid by the government because it is a universal basic education. The law says children should go to school free,” he noted.
Obi stressed that his political mission is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to do the right thing.
“I am in a coalition against hunger, poverty, and for good health. Politics for me is not about position, but about doing the right things,” he said.
He criticized the current political discourse in the country, stating that real issues such as education are often neglected in favour of politics.
“I, Peter, have told you where I stand. I didn’t talk about politics but about the education of these children. In this country, we talk about politics and abandon what we should be talking about – which is how to educate these children,” Obi added.
His comments follow a recent meeting with President Tinubu in Rome during the official installation of Pope Leo XIV. Obi, who was also in attendance, urged Nigerians not to politicize the encounter.
