On September 2nd, voters in Edo State’s local government area elections will cast ballots. On Monday, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) held a massive rally for the party in Benin City.
In his speech to the throngs of party members and supporters, Obi referred to the local government area system as the “domicile” of progress.
“Local government is the most accessible to the general public, and it is there that people’s basic needs should first and foremost be met.

Local governments are responsible for making progress in health care, schools, and the fight against poverty.
Therefore, the local government is crucial to the success of the system and the growth of any country, since it is there that the responsibility for development rests.
That’s why it’s essential to our growth and survival. Legal challenges as governor kept me from holding municipal elections for nearly six years.
So, we’re rallying today in preparation for the next Edo local government election. He assured me that we would do anything we could to help them.
Obi, on the other hand, charged voters in the state to vote en masse for candidates of the party in the election, promising that doing so would secure the future of the state.
Mr. Julius Abure, National Chairman of the Labour Party, spoke earlier, and he praised Gov. Godwin Obaseki for setting up the mechanisms for the conduct of the poll, but he stressed that the election must be free and fair.
Abure said that all of his party’s candidates should be elected in the upcoming local government election since they are the best available to run Nigeria’s local government.
Edo 2024 gubernatorial candidate Mr. Olumide Akpata also spoke, urging voters to cast ballots for all LP candidates despite any apprehensions they may have.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), Akpata, the former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), praised the LP’s candidates, saying they were “persons of impeccable character” who would carry out the party’s policies.
