Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed to prosecute and jail anyone found guilty of manipulating elections if he becomes president.
Obi made the statement while speaking on the need to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions and ensure that electoral processes reflect the choices of voters.
He said his administration would not tolerate electoral malpractice, adding that individuals who engage in rigging or other forms of electoral manipulation would face the consequences of their actions.
According to him, credible elections are essential to restoring public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic system and ensuring that elected officials derive their legitimacy from the people.
Obi also stressed the importance of accountability in public administration, saying government officials must operate within the law and be held responsible for their actions.
He called on Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process and protect their votes through lawful means.
The former governor said tackling electoral malpractice would require strong institutions, effective enforcement of the law and a political culture that places national interest above personal or partisan considerations.
Obi further urged political actors to support transparent elections and allow voters to freely choose their leaders without intimidation, inducement or manipulation.
