Former councillors in Plateau State have vowed not to accept Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s alleged plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress.
The spokesman of the Immediate Past Elected Councillors Forum, Dabit Dashe, stated this at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos, on Monday.
Addressing journalists, Dashe said the governor’s alleged interest in joining the APC contradicts his previous public remarks dismissing the party in the state.

“Governor Mutfwang has consistently said there is no APC in Plateau and that he would never join a party he once described as collapsing. His sudden desperation is therefore confusing,” he said.
The forum accused the governor of poor leadership, alleging that his policies had triggered hardship, homelessness, job losses, and the disengagement of over four thousand youths from public positions.
Dashe also alleged that the governor defied a Supreme Court judgment by sacking elected local government chairmen and councillors across all 17 council areas.
The forum further claimed that elected officials in all 17 local government areas were removed despite a subsisting Supreme Court ruling.
“Such actions should disqualify him from joining what we call the progressive APC,” Dashe added.
The group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and top party leaders including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and Rufus Bature, to reject any attempt by Governor Mutfwang to join the party.
The ex-councillors also cited the governor’s past criticism of the APC’s 2023 Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket and questioned what they described as a sudden shift in his political direction.
The forum argued that the governor brings no political value to the APC and should remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, where, they said, opposition accountability can continue.
In a twist, the forum endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, expressing confidence in APC leadership under National Chairman Yilwatda.
They, however, reaffirmed support for Yilwatda’s leadership, describing him as a stabilizing force within the party.
