PMB Is Limiting Corruption War To GEJ’s Administration – Danfulani

Danfulani stated this during a press conference on the one year assessment of All Progressive Congress (APC) government of President Muhammadu Buhari and Kaduna State governor, Nasir Elrufai.

The conference was organised by Centrum Initiative For Development and Fundamental Rights Advocacy (CEDRA) on Friday May 27, 2016, the lecturer said courts decisions must be respected.

“We had five PDP governors that decamped to APC and they are seen as not corrupt. Corruption cannot be fought with the way government wants. Corruption should be fought thought the laid down rules,” Danfulani said, adding, “Once you refuse to follow due process in the act of governance, it is corruption.”

“On 29th May 2016 the PMB and Governor El-Rufai regimes will be one year in office. Within their first year in office many decisions and actions were taken in fulfilment of duties bestowed to their offices in Nigeria’s 1999 constitution. Some of their actions were attempts to keep faith with their electoral promises while others were in fulfilment of the traditional roles assigned to their offices,” Danfulani said.

“As a group with the mission of promoting development, responsible and sensitive leadership, enlargement of democratic space, promotion of liberties, and accountable leadership, we have weighed PMB and El-Rufa’i’s actions and pronouncements and insist that the war against corruption be wagged in tandem with laid down rules.”

“CEDRA frowns at the way suspects are being treated as if they have been pronounced guilty by courts of competent jurisdiction. PMB must know that it is not how he wants the war be wagged but how the law said it should be done,” he said.

“CEDRA believes lack of serious economic plan and consistent vacillation in monetary policies has turned one of the continent’s largest and fastest growing economy to a basket case. GDP dropped to its lowest ebb in the past 25 years, Naira value nosedived, and over 500,000 workers lost their jobs. Power supply dropped and people wasted most of their productive hours queuing for petrol. We believe that he needs more economic advisers not a battalion of media experts he keeps appointing to launder his image and that of the regime,” the group added.

On Governor Elrufai performance in one year, CEDRA said within the period, the governor has taken far reaching decisions and made statements like; banning streets hawking and begging, scripting a religious bill, staging a musical jamboree, embarked on school feeding programme, made claim that one LGA in Kaduna State has more gold than South Africa, demolished structures in public schools land, arrested and jailed activists and penman, and told opponents to go climb Kufena Mountain and die.

“Most of the programmes are not in touch with the reality on ground. The school feeding programme that billions were sunk became a laughing stock. His attempt to build more classrooms for primary schools in the state ended producing more toilets than learning rooms in many schools. His religious censorship bill before the state house of assembly created more questions than answers. His claims of running a slimmer and effective government is a huge mantra. For a complete one year, there is no single people’s oriented project in Kaduna State,” CEDRA added.

The group said that the one year reign in Kaduna state of Nasir Elrufai was a complete disaster and full of unnecessary controversies.

“He needs to expand his understanding of the situation on ground and realities of happenings around him. Citizens of Kaduna state must get up and begin to challenge his style of leadership head-on and his know all attitudes which is doing more harm than good.”

“Opposition parties and advocates of good governance and liberty must not lower their guard. PMB and El-rufa’i are leaders not willing to lead by the constitution but by their whims and caprices. Gains of our sixteen years democracy are shrinking. Nigerians and the people of Kaduna state must keep them in check 24/7.”
