Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and prominent social critic, has blamed poisoned elections for the decline of democracy in Africa.
After a coup in the Central African country, Sani has made this statement.
After President Ali Bongo was re-elected for a third term, military officers in Gabon reportedly stated earlier in the day that they had seized power.

On Tuesday, senior military leaders reportedly made the announcement on national television, as reported by the BBC.
The officials reportedly made public their decision to nullify Saturday’s election result, which the opposition had dismissed as fraudulent.
However, Sani has said on his social media platform X that the Bongo family is killing democracy in Gabon because of their dominance.
He stated, “A BBC correspondent has just reported that people in Gabon are “genuinely” trooping out to the streets in support of the Coup in Libreville. The Bongo family ran the show, and they tore down Democracy. When elections are tainted, democracy in Africa dies.
