The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an unidentified man suspected of attempted child kidnapping in Ilorin, the state capita.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the arrest occurred on Friday, May 16, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., during a routine joint patrol by police operatives and community vigilante members.
According to the statement, the adult male suspect, who claimed to be from Osun State, was apprehended after being accused by a mob of attempting to abduct a child.

“He was rescued from a violent mob on the verge of executing jungle justice,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
The suspect is currently in police custody, as investigations continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping attempt and to identify any possible accomplices.
The Command noted that no complainants have yet come forward to provide additional information to aid the ongoing investigation.
“The Kwara Police Command reiterates its firm stance against mob action and jungle justice. Such acts are not only unlawful but can lead to a miscarriage of justice,” the statement added.
Members of the public have been urged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station instead of taking the law into their own hands.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served through due process.
