The Nigeria Police Force has addressed the prolonged detention of 26-year-old whistleblower Nnamdi Emeh, nearly two years after his arrest.
Emeh, who was detained after exposing alleged misconduct by senior police officers in Anambra State—including extortion, extrajudicial killings, torture, and organ harvesting—has remained in custody despite a release warrant signed on May 15, 2024.
The police have alleged that his continued detention is due to his failure to meet bail conditions.

In a statement released on Saturday night, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized that Emeh was lawfully arrested following credible allegations against him.
These included possession of firearms, defamation of character, money laundering, and the unlawful transfer of ₦47 million from one account to another.
“The charges preferred against him were duly filed, and he was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Awka, in line with due process,” Adejobi stated.
He reiterated that the judiciary operates independently, and the court is responsible for setting and evaluating bail conditions.
According to Adejobi, the onus is on Emeh to fulfill these conditions rather than seeking redress through the media.
“Mr. Emeh was granted bail on terms established by the court. It therefore behooves on the suspect to take steps to meet such conditions and not resort to unnecessary media rampage,” the statement read.
Adejobi also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the rule of law, professionalism, and the pursuit of justice.
He noted that the Force is obligated to investigate allegations against all individuals, including police officers, and subject suspects to due legal processes.
“While the case against Mr. Emeh continues in court, we appeal to the public to allow the judicial process to take its full course without undue speculation or interference,” Adejobi concluded.
The statement comes amid growing public concern and calls for justice over Emeh’s allegations against senior police officers and his prolonged detention.
