Police Investigating National Assembly Crisis – Inspector General

The Inspector General of police Suleimam Abba, on Friday, said that the Police had started investigating what led to the incident at the national assembly on Thursday.

“Who did what and who didn’t ‎do what will be disclosed to you later. You know we work with investigations, investigations are going on and the press officer will address you,” Abba told state House correspondents in a brief interview.

Speaker, House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal had been barred from the national assembly by security operatives. They fired teargas to stop lawmakers, including Tambuwal, from accessing the assembly.

The House committee on Police Affairs had since summoned the Inspector General to explain the reasons behind his men’s actions, but he failed to show up. His representatives were however walked out by the lawmakers who fixed November 26 for him to appear in person before the committee.

When asked by the newsmen if he was unaware of the operation beforehand, the IGP said; “I still repeat, ‘who did what, who didn’t do what,’ you will hear later. It is subject to investigations, we just don’t talk anyhow.”

He however hinted that his men were injured during the operation.

“Everybody has seen that ‎somebody was even beating somebody, ‎somebody was pushing a policeman from the car,” he said. “Somebody was removing road blocks mounted by police. We have never seen this kind of thing in the whole world, so we will talk to you later.

He promised that once investigation was concluded, the police will make its findings public and disclose the actions that it will take afterwards.
