The Police Service Commission (PSC) has cautioned cyber cafés and recruitment agents against extorting money from applicants seeking enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The warning followed reports that some applicants are being charged as much as N15,000 or more under the guise of assisting with the recruitment process.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission’s spokesperson, Mr Torty Njoku, debunked claims by some agents that the fees collected were being remitted to the PSC or other government agencies, describing such claims as false and misleading.
Njoku said the Commission had received complaints about the activities of “unscrupulous elements” who exploit unsuspecting applicants by demanding money to facilitate police recruitment.
He stressed that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is entirely free, noting that applicants are not required to pay any fee at any stage of the exercise.
The PSC advised prospective candidates to personally complete and submit their applications through the official recruitment portal at [www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng](http://www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng) without the involvement of third parties.
The Commission further warned that anyone found engaging in fraudulent recruitment practices would be prosecuted in line with the law.
Applicants were urged to report any request for payment to the nearest police station or directly to the PSC via 07054992071 (SMS or WhatsApp only).
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and fairness, the Commission assured Nigerians that it remains resolute in upholding a merit-based and accessible recruitment process.
