The Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mr. Hiroshi Kato has said that specific programmes to be implemented had been outlined at the Tokyo International Conference for Africa’s Development (TICAD) 5 Ministerial Level meeting in Younde, Cameroun. He stated this while briefing Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo in his office at the State. House Abuja.
Mr. Hiroshi Kato used the occasion to express Japan’s interest in the transmission projects of Nigeria stating that they had commenced a feasibility study for future projects while commending Nigeria for the rapid progress and transformation she has made since his last visit to the country.
Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo, while welcoming Mr. Hiroshi Kato thanked the Japanese Government for what it was doing for Nigeria and solicited the full cooperation of both countries in ensuring that the existing relationship between Nigeria and Japan continues to thrive.
Vice President Namadi Sambo added that the rehabilitation of the Jebba Hydro Power Plant has been discussed with relevant stakeholders and that though the power plant has been concessioned to Mainstream Energy Solutions, it would guarantee the private sector to ensure that the project proceeds. He used the occasion to inform the JICA vice president of the plans of Nigeria’s Government to develop small, medium and large hydro-power projects and noted that Government was reinvesting the proceeds from the sale of the ten new thermal power plants in the transmission infrastructure to boost transmission, while calling on the Japanese companies to participate in the international tendering process.
Those present at the meeting were the Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Aminu Wali, Minister of State for Works, Amb. Bashir Yuguda, Chief Representative of JICA in Nigeria, Tetsuo Seki, Masatu Makamo and JICA’s In-House Consultant, Gabriel Ajidani
