The Presidency has refuted claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that President Bola Tinubu has been negligent in addressing the security challenges facing Nigeria.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency clarified that President Tinubu has been actively monitoring the security situation in the country.
Contrary to Atiku Abubakar’s assertion, the Presidency emphasized that President Tinubu did not travel without informing Nigerians of his whereabouts.

It was noted that President Tinubu had announced a private visit to France, including a return date.
The statement was issued in response to Atiku Abubakar’s criticism of President Tinubu’s handling of the recent surge in kidnappings and killings across Nigeria, particularly citing incidents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Ekiti State.
Onanuga described Atiku Abubakar’s remarks as “reckless” and falling short of the expected conduct from an elder statesman.
He stressed that President Tinubu is in constant communication with officials and security chiefs, directing them to tackle criminal activities vigorously.
The statement further highlighted President Tinubu’s directives to security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending those responsible for recent criminal activities, including the murders of two monarchs in Ekiti State and the kidnapping of pupils.
The Presidency reiterated its commitment to addressing security challenges, stating that President Tinubu is actively supporting security agencies in their efforts to secure the nation.
“If Alhaji Atiku is really concerned about security issues and not playing cheap politics, he should have known that President Tinubu is on top of issues and working hard to restore peace to every part of our country,” the statement concluded.
