The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari after due consultations has announced on 6th June 2016 that henceforth 12 will be celebrated as Democracy Day.
The Presidency have also decided to award posthumously the highest Honour in the land, GCFR, to the Late Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential Election.
