President Bola Tinubu has approved a six-month extension of the service of Samuel Atang, the newly appointed Head of Service for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), effective from March 27.
This approval was communicated in a circular issued by Chidi Amadi, the Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, in Abuja.
The extension comes as Atang reaches the retirement age of 60.

The decision to extend his service is based on the need to stabilize and consolidate the ongoing processes aimed at repositioning the administrative structure of the FCT Administration, following the recent inauguration of the FCT Civil Service Commission.
The circular states, “I am directed to refer to the above subject matter and to inform you that His Excellency, the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has graciously approved the extension of your service for a period of six (6) months with effect from Wednesday, 27th March, 2024 when you would have attained the mandatory age of sixty (60) years.
“The extension of your service is premised on the need to stabilize and consolidate the ongoing processes to reposition the administrative structure of the FCT Administration occasioned by the recent inauguration of the FCT Civil Service Commission.”
