President Bola Tinubu has extended his sympathies to the family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of the national flag, over his death on Wednesday.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, the President said that Akinkunmi, who created the flag in 1958, left a generational heritage.
Tinubu condoled friends and acquaintances of the retired government servant, whom he said “dedicated his life to the service of the nation, sharing knowledge and experience with old and young, and inspiring many to think and act patriotically.”
The President reiterated that the green and white flag remains a legacy that has consistently symbolized the fruitfulness, resilience, and harmony enjoyed by the nation.
According to the statement, the president “believes Pa Akinkunmi lived and worked for the greatness of the country and rests eternally in a place of honour in Nigeria’s history.”
