President Bola Tinubu has officially presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag to the party’s standard bearer for the September 21 Edo State gubernatorial election, alongside his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, at the state house.
During the presentation, President Tinubu expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects for victory in the upcoming election.
The President commended the state leadership of the APC for their efforts in resolving internal conflicts that led to the emergence of the candidate and his running mate.
He stated his belief that the path is now clear for the APC to assume leadership in the state after the forthcoming election.
The primary election that produced Okpebholo as the candidate was marked by controversy. Initially, Idahosa was declared the party’s nominee by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led committee.
However, the first round of voting included Okpebholo, Idahosa, and Dekeri, each claiming the party’s governorship ticket.
Due to numerous irregularities, the APC’s National Working Committee declared the primary election inconclusive.
Okpebholo ultimately emerged victorious with 12,433 votes in the re-run held on February 23.
President Tinubu’s presentation of the party flag underscores the APC’s readiness and determination to secure victory in the upcoming election and assume leadership in Edo State.
