Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s decision to halt the planned electricity tariff hike, stating that it reflects the president’s sensitivity to the masses’ plight.
Speaking to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye highlighted that Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, had revealed on November 8 that President Tinubu intervened to prevent an increase in the cost of electricity tariff.
The president insisted that a subsidy be maintained on power consumed nationwide, emphasizing the potential counter-productivity of removing the subsidy while Nigerians were still grappling with the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

Oyintiloye pointed out, “The president’s decision on the electricity hike shows that he was in constant touch with the feelings and aspirations of Nigerians.”
He referenced the quarterly report by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), which indicated that the federal government’s subsidy in the power sector surged to N135.2 billion in the second quarter of 2023, a substantial increase from the N36 billion in the first quarter.
The APC chieftain stressed the significance of acknowledging that the government continues to subsidize electricity for the masses, noting that removing this subsidy during a period of economic challenges would have imposed additional burdens on the people.
Commending President Tinubu, Oyintiloye stated, “This really shows that the president meant well for Nigerians, and all his economic policies are in line and in tune with reality, which is in the best interest of the populace.”
He highlighted the president’s understanding of the challenges faced by Nigerians, including exchange rate fluctuations and inflation, and applauded the efforts to bring about positive change.
