The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has advised Nigeria’s opposition parties to form a coalition if they hope to challenge and unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement released on Tuesday through his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele emphasized that only a united front between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) could mount a credible challenge against Tinubu.
He warned that any isolated efforts by these parties would be ineffective, making Tinubu’s re-election “a smooth ride.”
“If PDP, Labour, NNPP don’t unite to form a coalition and propose one rugged and solid candidate for the 2027 presidential election, they won’t be able to unseat President Tinubu,” Ayodele stated.
“It will be a smooth ride for the president in 2027 except there is a strong coalition from the major political parties.”
Addressing the PDP specifically, Ayodele cautioned that any attempt to field Atiku Abubakar or go solo in the election would likely end in defeat.
He argued that no current PDP governor has the strength or popularity to succeed in a presidential race, predicting financial and electoral losses if the party does not pursue a coalition.
“If PDP decides to field Atiku, it will be a disaster, they will lose the election,” he added. “If PDP wants to stand alone, they will run into debt and as it stands, there is no sitting governor that has the capacity to become president in PDP. They are not strong enough.”
Ayodele’s comments come as political parties across Nigeria begin strategizing for the 2027 election, with speculation mounting over potential alliances and candidates.
