The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has rejected the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by the Progressive Governors Forum and the National Assembly, describing the move as a desperate attempt to cling to power.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Chairman of the PRP, Mallam Falalu Bello, criticised the endorsement, warning that such actions undermine the spirit of democracy.
“The APC’s current move to endorse Tinubu’s candidacy appears to be a classic case of a desperate power grab—an attempt to cement dominance through endorsements and political theatre rather than delivery of genuine democratic dividends,” Bello stated.

The endorsement, which came during the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit in Abuja last Thursday, was spearheaded by the APC Governors’ Forum and affirmed by key figures in the National Assembly.
However, Bello argued that the show of support reflects political desperation rather than the true will of the Nigerian people. He stressed that political power is not sustained by tactics or endorsements but by the trust and confidence of the electorate.
“Even the most formidable political machinery crumbles when the people’s confidence is lost,” he said. “Tinubu’s political machinery and endorsements may seem formidable, but they cannot silence the cries of the masses suffering under economic hardship.”
He noted that public discontent is growing under Tinubu’s administration and warned that superficial political manoeuvres will not substitute for real governance.
“When citizens whisper, ‘This is not what we voted for,’ it signals a fundamental disconnect between leadership and the governed,” Bello said.
The PRP chairman urged the APC and President Tinubu to focus on delivering tangible results, noting that democracy thrives not on endorsements but on meeting the expectations of the people.
“Any attempt to belittle the fundamental principle of democracy through desperation is doomed to fail,” he concluded.
