The Police Service Commission, PSC, has approved the promotion of several senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to higher ranks.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the commission, Torty Njoku Kalu, who said the promotions followed rigorous written examinations and oral interviews.
According to the statement, the exercise was concluded on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and was presided over by the Chairman of the commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retd).

Among those promoted is AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, who, prior to his elevation, served as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Community Policing Project Department, Research and Planning, at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The commission also approved the promotion of seven Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police.
In addition, three Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Commissioners of Police.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd), urged them to embrace their new responsibilities with renewed dedication and professionalism.
He stressed that promotions come with higher expectations and charged the officers to rededicate themselves to effective policing, the protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order.
Argungu reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to regular, merit-based promotions in line with global best practices.
