Harry Redknapp has told Shaun Wright-Phillips that he will need to reduce his wage demands so that Queens Park Rangers can afford to keep him at the club, according to The Mirror.
.
The January transfer window is an ideal time for the London club to reduce their wage bill; however, it is proving difficult as players are unlikely to choose to drop their salary for first team football.
.
Redknapp reporters: “It’s difficult. It’s only Premier League clubs who could afford to take him (Shaun Wright Phillips) on his wages.
.
“Other clubs aren’t going to put up that type of money. There isn’t big money in this league wages- wise.”
.
The English winger has only featured 11 times altogether for QPR in the Championship as he struggles to hold down a regular spot.
.
Wright-Phillips, formerly of Chelsea and Manchester City, has been part of the QPR set up since 2011, scoring one goal in 61 appearances.
.
QPR are one point adrift of the automatic promotion places so far this season with 20 games still to play.
.
He added: “If any of them want to take a thousand- per-cent drop in wages or something, they can, but you don’t see too many doing that.”
.
Redknapp and QPR will travel to Portman Road to play Ipswich on Saturday to try and climb back into the top two.
