Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has said that he had contact with Real Madrid over a possible transfer before joining the Blues.
Fabregas, said that he held discussions with the La Liga giants over several years.
The Spain midfielder left Arsenal to rejoin his boyhood club Barcelona in 2011 before making a shock return to the Premier League with Chelsea three years later.
He said: Well, there were contacts over several years and with different presidents. An agreement was never concluded. There were things, but there was no final agreement. It lacked the step forward.
Fabregas was a key part of the Chelsea side that won the Premier League title in emphatic fashion last season, but the 28-year-old is one of several members of Jose Mourinho?s side who have struggled for form this season.
