Sociopolitical critic Reno Omokri has called on Nigerians to refrain from blaming President Bola Tinubu if the naira further depreciates to N2414 to a dollar.
Omokri highlighted the impact of Nigerians’ extensive importation of food items from countries like China and Thailand on the naira’s value.
Omokri emphasized the need to support locally-made goods, citing Nigeria’s annual expenditure of $6 billion on food imports.

He criticized the importation of items like rice, toothpicks, and even pizza, which can be produced locally.
In a post on X, Omokri stated, “Let the Naira fall. It is good. When we can no longer afford imported food, we will be forced to eat homegrown food.”
He urged Nigerians to prioritize local brands and products to improve the country’s foreign reserves, trade balances, and debt to GDP ratio.
Omokri’s suggestions include using Nigerian telecom services like Glo, purchasing Nigerian-made vehicles like Innoson, and supporting local banks such as First Bank, UBA, GTBank, and Zenith over foreign counterparts.
He also advocated for watching and buying Nigerian football clubs and products over foreign ones.
Omokri stressed that saving Nigeria lies in the hands of its citizens and that continued patronage of local brands will lead to an improvement in their quality.
He believes that supporting Nigerian products will not only boost the value of the naira but also enhance personal happiness and elevate the international standing of the Nigerian passport.
