The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin also declared his full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
Announcing his defection in a statement via his Facebook page on Monday, the lawmaker said his supporters had unanimously resolved to abandon the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement to realign with the ruling APC.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” Jibrin said.
According to him, the gathering unanimously agreed to leave the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement, join the APC, and endorse President Tinubu for a second term.
He added that nearly 2,000 scholars from his constituency had earlier offered special prayers for the President, seeking peace, progress, and development for Kiru/Bebeji, Kano State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Jibrin’s return to the APC comes two months after his expulsion from the NNPP over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of membership dues.
Reacting to his suspension at the time, Jibrin described the party’s decision as “shocking and unjustified,” maintaining that the interview he granted in both English and Hausa—which the NNPP cited as grounds for his expulsion—did not warrant such action.
He accused the NNPP of violating the principles of fair hearing and due process, saying he was expelled without being given an opportunity to defend himself.
The lawmaker, however, said he had accepted the decision in good faith and would not seek legal redress.
Jibrin further clarified that he had always met his financial obligations to the party and dismissed claims of defaulting on membership dues.
