Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State’s convoy was, weekend, pelted with stones, sachet water and sand following allegations that he planned to humiliate his political godfather and predecessor, Ali Modu Sheriff, who was due to visit the state, yesterday.
.
Sheriff, who said he never planned to visit the state but for the sudden death of the Emir of Shani, Alhaji Muhammadu Mailafiya, was received at the Gombe airport by several party supporters from Maiduguri and environs.
.
He was led in a motorcade to Shani Local Government Area of the state for the condolence visit.
.
Sources said alleged plan to stop the former governor from entering Maiduguri from Biu was foiled when it was learnt that Shettima reportedly mobilised security officials and Civilian JTF to force him back to Abuja.
.
This was just as Sheriff’s supporters in Maiduguri, who assembled at his UTC campaign office to receive him, were chased away by security operatives.
.
However, despite efforts to stop him (Sheriff), the former governor stormed Maiduguri in a grand style as crowd, commissioners, members of the state House of Assembly, top politicians, as well as federal legislators accompanied him into the city.
.
When Sheriff and his entourage entred Maiduguri at about 3:30 p.m., the residents welcomed him with cheers as they waved, chanting “the leader is back, the leader is back; we do not want Kashim Shettima’s style of leadership.”
