The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has rejected the move by the State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy.
InfoStride News had earlier reported that the Assembly on Thursday initiated an impeachment process against Fubara over alleged misconduct, with the impeachment notice expected to be issued to the governor and his deputy within the next seven days.
Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC, in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, described the move as unacceptable and vowed to resist any attempt to destabilise the state government.

“Our position as at today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Nwauju said.
He warned that it would be untenable for the party to remain silent while what he described as lingering internal disputes from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were allowed to resurface within the APC.
“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party,” he added.
Nwauju further assured that the ruling party would take all necessary steps to prevent the destabilisation of the Rivers State Government.
“The APC will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilised,” he said.
