Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the new Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, to prioritize addressing cultism and kidnapping, which have plagued the state.
The governor gave the directive during a courtesy visit by Adepoju and senior officers of the State Police Command to the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Fubara stressed the need for the new Commissioner to leverage his extensive knowledge of the state’s terrain to combat crime effectively.

He also advised Adepoju to steer clear of nocturnal meetings that could escalate political tensions within the state.
The governor’s charge follows a tragic incident in Eleme Local Government Area, where a Dutch expatriate working with the state government, along with his driver and security aides, drowned after their vehicle plunged into a river while allegedly fleeing a kidnapping attempt.
Commissioner Pledges Commitment
In his response, Adepoju, who officially assumed duty as the 47th Commissioner of Police in Rivers State on January 4, assured the governor of his commitment to tackling crime.
He promised to enhance intelligence gathering and improve response mechanisms to ensure the safety of residents. Adepoju also reiterated his dedication to maintaining a non-partisan approach in the discharge of his duties.
The governor and the Commissioner of Police expressed optimism about their collaboration to bolster security across Rivers State.
