The Rivers State Police Command has officially announced the demise of David Gift-Okpara, also known as 2Baba, a notorious criminal and alleged mastermind behind the murder of former Ahoada Divisional Police Officer, Bako Angbashim.
According to the state command, 2Baba was killed during a joint operation in Idu-Ekpeye community, Ahoada East LGA.
His death marks a significant development in the quest to bring justice for Angbashim, whose murder shook the region in September 2023.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara had issued a N100 million bounty for anyone with credible information leading to 2Baba’s arrest, highlighting the severity of the case. Several individuals linked to the crime have been apprehended, underscoring the authorities’ commitment to tackling criminal activities in Rivers State.
In a statement, the Rivers State Police Command praised the support from stakeholders, which it credited for enhancing intelligence-led operations and ensuring the safety of law enforcement agencies during the pursuit of justice.
The operation that led to 2Baba’s death involved the arrest and prosecution of over 70 suspects connected to the murder.
Despite 2Baba’s evasion tactics, including exploiting difficult terrain and strategic placement of informants, law enforcement agencies persisted in their efforts.
The statement detailed the aerial assault executed by the Air Force on 2Baba’s camp, resulting in significant casualties and injuries to his gang members.
Although 2Baba initially escaped, he was later confirmed dead after losing consciousness and failing to be resuscitated.
Efforts are underway to retrieve 2Baba’s body, and investigations into the activities of the Iceland cult in the region continue.
The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding citizens and maintaining a secure environment through the deployment of necessary resources and strategies.
Numerous weapons and items were recovered from 2Baba’s camp, including firearms, ammunition, explosives, army camouflage, assorted charms, and a human skull, highlighting the extent of criminal activities associated with his gang.
