Salah’s Dip In Form Is Klopp’s Fault – Don Hutchison

Mohammed Salah’s drop in form is all Jurgen Klopp’s fault according to former West Ham and Scotland midfielder, Don Hutchison.

Salah has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season.

With just 12 games remaining, it is impossible for him to get near the remarkable tally of 44 goals got in his first campaign at Anfield.

Salah spent the majority of last season on the right of a front three but has played a more central role at times this term.

Hutchison is of the opinion that that the change from Jurgen Klopp has hindered Salah and he believes the forward would have scored more than his 17 Premier League goals if he featured in a role he is more familiar with.

“I think what’s happened to him this season, when you go and play as a No 9, because that’s where he’s been playing this season, [Roberto] Firmino’s been playing a little bit deeper, that is a totally different role than coming off the flank, where you get in one v ones with the full back,” Hutchison said on Premier League Today.

“Believe me, I’ve played the position as well, it’s very, very hard to score loads of goals when you’re leading the line for your side and you’ve got two centre-halves behind you.

“It’s all about your link-up play, can you pop it off, can you get in the box.

“When he’s on the right side against any left-back in world football, he’d destroy any full-back.

“If you had played Mo Salah on the right-hand side all season, I’m pretty sure you could add another five-10 on that.’

“He was being talked of, and rightly so by the way, don’t take this the wrong way but people were talking about the way he plays the game is quite similar to Messi,” he added.

“I’m not saying at all he’s at the same standard.

“What I’m saying is when you watch him, left-sided player, super quick, you look at his balance.

“Messi does all these things, that is someone like Leo Messi when you watch him.”
