Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South and serving as the Senate Chief Whip, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidy, stating that it was a prudent move resulting in significant financial savings for the Nigerian government.
Ndume shared his perspective during an interview on Channels TV’s “Politics Today” program on Friday.
He highlighted the widespread consensus among Nigerians that some tough decisions were necessary for the country’s economic stability.
In his statement, Ndume commended the fiscal benefits reaped since Tinubu’s announcement of the subsidy removal.
He remarked, “All Nigerians also agree that some of the hard decisions needed to be taken. You can imagine what we have saved from the period he announced that subsidy would be no more.”
Tinubu had officially declared the removal of fuel subsidy during his inauguration in Abuja on May 29.
The Federal Government subsequently reported saving approximately N1.45 trillion from earnings generated between June and September due to the subsidy removal, as indicated by FAAC allocation documents available on the Nigeria Governors Forum and National Bureau of Statistics websites.
